The Baltic Border Tower is a unique place where the history of the era of the divided Germany can by experienced authentically. Decide to climb up to the top of the tower with the view over the wide horizon of the Baltic Sea that earlier was the border. Or learn something about the technique of the border surveilance from a historical guided tour and a visit of the tower. In future a special path around the tower will give additional information.
In 1990 the Border Tower Society and residents of Kühlungsborn saved the Baltic Border Tower from demolition and it was maintained as a monument. At present and in the future the tower will by restored step by step and turned into a meeting place. The Border Tower Society is compiling local archives and happily accepts every contribution may it be information, documents or objects.

Many refugees started their escape in Kühlungsborn, some managed successfully to reach West-Germany or Denmark, others were caught and arrested or lost their lives in the attempt. Their fates but also the consequences of the Baltic border on everyday life for the residents of Kühlungsborn are given a special emphasis.
The refugee Jörn Wiek from Kühlungsborn escaped 1987 from Pepelow ( newspaper article) On his way he entered for one night the Sowjet-Army Base "Wustrow" He gave the Society his original getaway boat, a tiny rubber dingy, as exhibit.
